The Discipline of Discernment

I want to write up a post about how to have discernment.  Yes, it is a discipline!

The Discipline of Discernment

Be it in a small town, a church, or a corporate entity, there’s always a conflict or two that arises between people.  And, sometimes that conflict is on a very, Very, VERY personal level.  It sucks.  But it happens.  And when (not if) you find yourself even remotely close to the situation, I want to give you a few things to consider.

How to have the discipline of discernment:

Baby Got Book

Baby Got Book

The title of this post could also be:

Best Video Ever

Why in the world have  I never seen this video?  Purely an awesome work of marketing art.  The camera work, the lyrics, the creativity, the storyboard, …all of it.  Pure genius!

And to think, if I would have lived my whole life, never to have seen this remarkably captivating video – honestly, could I say I really lived?

You’re about to watch it again, aren’t you?  It’s ok, I’ve been clicking ‘replay’ for the last 3hrs and 42 minutes as well.

Have fun.  And, yes, you’re welcome.

His Daughter by Molly Kate Kestner

Click play, then read.

His Daughter by Molly Kate Kestner is a great little song from a great little singer.  Perhaps you’ve seen heard this one before – maybe you haven’t.  I don’t always prod people to comment, share, tag, and whatnot, but this time I will.  Share this post ~ in a message, in an email, in a tweet, use the social media sharing buttons, …whatever.

Don’t let this song, the lyrics, and the message go unheard!

Everything’s gonna be alright
She whispers to herself
She was only 6 years old that night
As she hid behind that shelf
Cuz daddy had a little too much to drink
And mama didn’t want her to feel the pain she felt
But she still felt the pain…

Well 10 years they came and went
And dad was gone
So she looked for love in other men
And tried to act strong.
Broken hearts and Scars in only places she could see
Cuz she just wanted, she just wanted to feel something

And as she sat there on that bed
thinking bout what those girls said
tears streamed down her eyes
She cried…

If there’s a God out there
Please here my prayer.
I’m lost and I’m scared
and I’ve got no where else to go
I’ve come a long, long way
But I’m not sure I can make it much farther…
So if you’re listening, could you give a helping hand
To your daughter.

Well her path started to change
She reached out and grabbed God’s grace
And finally, she saw a light
Until that night…
Where she decided one drink was alright
and one thing led to another
Next thing you know, 9 months go be
she’s a mother.

And as she layer there in that bed
Stroking that small angels head
Tears streamed down her eyes
She cried…

If there’s a God out there
Please here my prayer.
I’m lost and I’m scared
and I’ve got no where else to run
I’ve come a long, long way
But I’m not sure I can be the best mother…
So if you’re listening, could you give a helping hand
To your daughter.

Well that baby grew into a boy
Who became her pride and joy
He loved her like no man could
And her heart felt peace, cuz she finally understood
God’s love.

And as she layed there in that bed
99 years old
She grabbed her songs hand and said
There’s something you must know…

There is a God up there
Who heard my prayer
I was lost and afraid
And I had no where else to go.
I had know clue, what to do
And then He sent me you.

So if you’re lost and afraid
and you feel so alone
don’t worry child
cuz there’s a Father who will love you as His own
Just like he loved his daughter.
Like he loved His daughter.

Girl in A Country Song

Girl In a Country Song

Girl in A Country Song

...and people wonder why a guy from a small town suburb of Fort Worth does NOT listen to country music (usually) I'll say that Girl In A Country Song is one of the exceptions!

Someone showed this to me and I just had to pass it on .

Maddie & Tae talk about being country girls and I really wish every person – guy and girl – would please watch this video!

Ladies, can I tell ya a secret?  The overall demographic of “men” is changing.  Don’t get me wrong, there are still, and will always be typical men.  But in general, if you want a guy with a bit more quality, don’t put so much focus on your tan, your hair, your butt (well, ok a little!), on your looks, your smokey eyes, how much leg can hang out of your shorts, how much (whatever-the-lower-butt-thing-is-called) can hang out of your shorts, your nails, and how much cleavage you can post on Facebook.

A cute butt is great.  But in today’s world, if you want a good man, get a bit-o-character, and don’t be a typical Girl in a Country Song.

Believe Me Film | It’s Only a Sin if You Get Caught

Believe Me Film

Believe Me Film is a new movie coming out in September.

We haven’t gotten the full copy of the Believe Me Film to pre-screen yet, but I wanted to type up a few thoughts on the movie from Riot Studios entitled “Believe Me Film”.

It’s amazing how (…pardon my lack of choosing a better word, but…) gullible some folks can be!  Before we look at the “Believe Me Film”, which is a fictional movie, let’s look at a real life example of when people simply say, “BelieveMe”.   There’s a HUGE lack of personal accountability that some people take when inhaling and then regurgitating information.  I get that social stereotypes are sometimes behaviorally easy.  But at some point folks need to simply ….

Believe Me Film | Stop believing the deception
Believe Me Film | stop believing the deception!

Before we get to the Believe Me video, lemme give ya a quick example.  Watch and listen to this video very, Very, VERY  carefully:

First, this is flat out sad.  But think for a minute….  Think about all the people who had to fall under the ‘gullible’ category with this mother – I should probably say woman and not associate the term “mother” with this woman!  Note: My dad was – amongst other positions – at one point a Social Worker.  So some “discernment” issues have become instinctual for me. Watch and I’ll point out each and every person – professional! – who had to fall under the category of gullible in order for this lady to pull this crap off.

  • The doctors – If it’s not medically possible for the sodium levels to be that high, then it IS human-action that has caused the high levels of sodium.  For the sake of the child, let’s call and have Child Protective Services (or whatever it’s called in your state) open up an investigation.
  • The nurses – Same scenario as above.  Someone should have called, called again, and called again and again, until they  found out the reason for the  “unexplained” levels of sodium!
  • Child Protective Services – THE WORST OFFENDERS OF GULLIBLE-NESS!! If you do a little bit more research on this case, you’ll see that this woman was indeed investigated several times by CPS.  And yet each and every time, the woman was simply “Believed”.  She was allowed unrestricted access to the son! Some Social Workers are great.  Some are ……eh – I’ll stop 😉

Ok, OK, Brad.  But what does that have to do with the Believe Me Film?

It’s the plot in the Believe Me Film!  In the movie, you’ll see a need.  The need is going to be money.  Tuition is needed to pay for college. And, instead of getting a loan, or filling out a ton of scholarship forms, the guys hatch their own form of deception.  They set up a website, give the website some very persuasive text and images, and start taking donations for their ’cause”.
And, before long, their deceptive cause gets wings and takes off!  See the parallels in the two scenarios?

What’s the only thing needed for these situations to happen?  A gullible person needs to not do any ‘homework’ before taking action, and a deceptive person needs to simply say,

Believe Me Film
Believe Me Film

I want to encourage you to share this post with your friends and family.  Not only is the story above a tragic one, but I really do anticipate this movie having some HUGE “Enlightening” and eye-opening life changes on a lot of people!  But, it is up to you and I to share and promote in order for the Believe Me Film to be seen!

Broken Together – Casting Crowns

Broken Together - Casting Crowns
Broken Together - Casting Crowns
Broken Together – Casting Crowns

(Unfortunately) I can think of so many couples who have – regardless of gender – broken – themselves, their relationships, their marriage, and their families. I want you to read the lyrics as you listen to this song. In certain cases, walking away (or running like a bat outta HADES!) from a relationship is indeed necessary. But most of the time, it’s not. There might be shame in what you’ve done ma’am. There might be regret in what you’ve done sir. But, with honest reconciliation, is walking away really necessary?
…or can you be broken. Together?

Here’s a new, just released song from Casting Crowns.

Casting Crowns – Broken Together (w/Lyrics)

What do you think about
When you look at me?
I know we’re not the fairy tale you dreamed we’d be.
You wore the veil you walked the aisle you took my hand
and we dove into a mystery.

How I wish we could go back to simpler times
Before all our scars and all our secrets were in the light.
Now on this hallowed ground we’ve drawn the battle lines.
Will we make it through the night?

It’s gonna take much more than promises this time.
Only God can change our minds.
Maybe you and I were never meant to be complete.
Could we just be broken together?

If you can bring your shattered dreams and I’ll bring mine.
could healing still be spoken and save us?
The only way we’ll last forever is broken together

How it must have been so lonely by my side.
We were building kingdoms and chasing dreams and left love behind.
I’m praying God will help our broken hearts align.
Then we won’t give up the fight.

It’s gonna take much more than promises this time.
Only God can change our minds.
Maybe you and I were never meant to be complete.
Could we just be broken together?

If you could bring your shattered dreams
and I’ll bring mine.
Could healing still be spoken and save us?
The only way we’ll last forever, is broken together.

Maybe you and I were never meant to be complete.
Could we just be broken together?
If you could bring your shattered dreams
and I’ll bring mine.
Could healing still be spoken and save us?
The only way we’ll last forever
is Broken.

Together.
